Arts Beats and Eats Studio started several years ago as a test to see if Evansville art patrons would be interested in a work/live art experience that included great food & local music, as well as art. Our first event featured several established local artists who displayed their work in dedicated rooms in the house with the living room being the showcase for local music. It was a huge success! Evansville not only showed up, but they showed they would help sustain local artists.
That following September, ABE Studio sponsored a launch party for the Curated Loom, a fine art & works-of-art fabric business combining the talents of Keith Boyd and myself. Over 125 people came to support this new endeavor. We featured a local food truck alongside the house with al fresco dining in the driveway. The group Gitgo, Theo Akai, and Ray Vigurs played an ethnic vibe to help create a more international flair which was in line with the artwork.
Our last big event was a fundraiser for the American Heart Association, called “I Heart Art”, with two galleries (converted bedrooms) showing themed art of local and international artists. Later in the evening, there was a concert by the 7-piece band, Honey Roy. We finished the evening dancing to “Sweet Home Chicago”. We sold out of our 60 reserved spots for this event. It included international food from local, independent restaurants. We paid our musicians and artists and also gave a $1,000. check to the local AHA in honor of our lost loved ones.
